THE CHALLENGE

CityCo is one of the largest independent membership organisations in the UK, looking after over 1000 companies across Manchester and Salford in all sectors, sizes and locations. They also manage Manchester’s Business Improvement District (Manchester BID), a working consortium of over 400 leading city centre retailers and restaurants.

Working closely with Greater Manchester Police, the BCRP has strengthened significantly over the past 5 years; representing businesses at the highest strategic level in the city, sharing intelligence, tackling security concerns and offering bespoke training.

CityCo required a communications service that would provide their members with a high quality radio system for both day and night time economies. The system needed to be reliable, and the organisation providing the radios needed to have a thorough understanding of CityCo’s requirements.

THE SOLUTION

M.R.S. Communications provided CityCo with a communications system that fit their requirements, enabling their members to easily communicate with each other. To ensure that the systems were effective for businesses operating during the day or throughout the night, M.R.S. implemented their StoreNet and NiteNet systems. Although tailored to the retail industry and night time scene respectively, both systems provide a members with a support network of other businesses in their local area. As a result, the system improves safety measures within the area and helps staff to feel safer in their working environment.

M.R.S. Communications have been the chosen supplier for Manchester City Centre since 1997, and have recently renewed their partnership. In 2011, M.R.S. were also responsible for the migration of CityCo’s radio system from analogue to digital. Part of this development was the introduction of a command and control software management suite that allowed CityCo to manage, review and identify training issues through audio recording facilities. The system provided them with the ability to use their own audio footage as part of an evidential package for the first time ever – an extremely useful tool that is valued by their members to this day.
